What's the Buzz? Press Release

October 31st, 2003

With 2004 comes an all-new BuzzAldrin.com, a completely redesigned website highlighting Dr. Aldrin’s role as a public figure, corporate spokesperson and his close association with technology and space advancement. A special feature of the site is a comprehensive timeline of Dr. Aldrin’s life, including rare photographs from Aldrin’s personal archives. The site also features Aldrin’s role as an author and space futurist, including a collection of his writings on space tourism, the Mars-Cycler and the forthcoming project Aquilla. And of course, the site unveils the latest news and press information about Buzz.

Speaking of the latest news…

Last year America celebrated the Centennial of Flight, which culminated on December 17th in Kitty Hawk. One hundred years after the Wright brothers’ first powered flight, Buzz was honored as one of the Top 100 Contributors to Flight – alongside fellow aviation pioneers Neil Armstrong, John Glenn and Chuck Yeager.

On December 18th, Buzz ushered in the “next century of flight” via the Next Century of Flight Space Imperatives conference held at the Reagan Center in Washington DC. Dr. Aldrin and his team at ShareSpace Foundation worked closely with Aviation Week to co-host the event, which was sponsored by Boeing, Lockheed Martin, American Airlines, and Meade Telescopes. Broadcast live on C-SPAN and heralded as a timely and critical look at the future of America’s human space flight program, the conference successfully gathered leading thinkers and policy makers from the aerospace industry, academia and NASA – as well as honored guest Apollo astronauts.

Buzz enthusiastically supports the recent presidential announcement calling for a return to the moon and a manned mission to Mars, and will be testifying to the new space commission. He is currently working on his newest book to be published by Rodale Books – in which he will explore the journey, excitement and politics revolving around America’s future in human space travel. Also due out next year is Dr. Aldrin’s first children’s book, to be illustrated by renowned artist Wendell Minor and published by Harper Collins.

This year Dr. Aldrin will be working closely with American Airlines by appearing at a series of promotional events, participating in the “I Fly American” print ad campaign, and by further developing the alliance between the airline and Dr. Aldrin’s space endeavors.

Also, this year Buzz will continue his association with the Accutron line of Bulova watches to develop the new Buzz Aldrin Pilot’s Watch. Accutron provides time-keeping for extreme sports events such as Colorado’s Bumps and Jumps, and sponsors celebrity invitationals such as last December’s Deer Valley Merrill Lynch Ski Classic – where Buzz raced the giant slalom course to help raise funds for the US Olympic Ski Team.
