
Buzz Aldrin Leads 2003 Pledge Across America

GLENDALE, CALIFORNIA, September 17, 2003 – Apollo 11 Astronaut Buzz Aldrin led the Pledge of Allegiance from Forest Lawn as part a national celebration of the U.S. Constitution. Nearly 1000 Los Angeles area youth gathered with teachers and families at Forest Lawn-Hollywood Hills for the educational event, which featured representatives from local police, fire, military, and other civic groups. Buzz led the pledge as part of a national synchronized Pledge of Allegiance by President Bush. “Pledge Across America” is an event designed to encourage united, patriotic observances for students nationwide and sets the stage for year-long instruction on citizenship, American principles and American history. Participants enjoyed an authentic re-enactment of Iwo Jima Memorial by U.S. Marines from Camp Pendleton and hear inspiration remarks by Academy Award-winning actor and U.S. Navy veteran Earnest Borgnine.
